I have never loved working, but I feel like now I am just about done. My wife and I opened a cafe/bakery and it's far, far harder and more mentally draining than working a normal-ass job. However, I keep seeing people hate it and make it look like the worst thing. And we’ve lost that connection in general, but people with corporate life lost that connection even more. There's so much shit you have to eat when you start out. We think we can survive in the concrete jungle, but that is not who we innately are. It's not just the company either - I hate sitting behind a screen for 9 hours a day, wearing 'business' clothing, and walking around with a fake smile pretending like I drink the kool-aid to please upper management. Goodbye social life, goodbye money, goodbye intimacy, goodbye decent income (at least at first). I’ve worked in corporate accounting (mostly in energy, was fine), and now I’m a solutions architect for a SaaS company. The constant politics, constant changes from leadership, the fake-ness and having to pretend to like this shit, the corporate speak, the shitty toxic cultures, sick and tired of this. I HATE corporate life. I am 49, so still a number of years I just hate the eggshell-walking, customer pandering and corporate culture (at least when working for someone else and bending over backwards for businesses of which you have little control). .
