Toyota rav4 steering column clunking noise. Like parts that should smoothly rub together are sticking or catching in some way. It is caused by a defect in the steering linkage under the dash. It did this the first time at about 30,000 miles. Then front suspension arms rear bushes can make these noises that you have described. It is basically one knock or clunk, not a series and the sound comes from the steering column area i'd say, not suspension area. The RAV4 steering clunking noise is a defect acknowledged by Toyota in a Technical Service Bulletin. I hear it frequently when going over small bumps in the road (washboard asphalt & even road reflectors) and can feel it. Inspect the shaft for excessive play or damaged splines.
